The Physics of Medieval Archery
Have you ever wondered about the archers of yore? Wondered about the bow and arrow in terms of the science of it all? Well, the Stortford Archery Club has a great write up of the physics of medieval archery. With the combination of good writing and mathematical formulae they've put something together that is a pretty good read, not to mention educational. Enjoy.

World of Warcraft: Where to Start on Supplemental Lore
If you are like me, a fan of the World of Warcraft game, then you may also have experienced what I have lately; That is, not knowing where to start if I wanted to supplement my Warcraft knowledge with books and previous games. I played the first Warcraft game years ago,
dabbled with the second, and actually never played the third offering. Now, after playing WoW, I find myself wanting to know more about Azeroth and it's history. I did a search online and found that beside the obvious option of replaying previous games, that there are various books, including several trilogies. Now the question is where to start?
Well, I came across a simple answer yesterday on WorldOfWarcraft.com. They have a simple timeline that gives the titles of the games and books, and where they sit, in terms of years to each other. What an awesome offering! Also, they offer five chapters (chapter six is not complete) of condensed and summarized lore there as well. These chapters are even subtitled with where they fall in the timeline scheme of things (ie. Warcraft Three, etc). Well, now that you know where to look for the answer, head on out to the library, bookstore, or friend's house and get to reading and playing!

Game: BattleLore a Medieval & Fantasy Boardgame
If you are a gamer, either paper & pen, or computer and you've hit a stage where you need to switch it up maybe a board game is in order. Which board game? Perhaps the answer is BattleLore. Here is a quote from BattleLoreMaster.com:
"BattleLore is a boardgame that recreates massive clashes between medieval armies. Played on board with detailed plastic miniatures, it is the latest in the well-established Command & Colors series of games by Richard Borg, all of which use a flexible card-driven system as the basis of play."
I personally haven't given this game a shot yet, but I have heard others discuss it, and since they started adding expansion packs and such, it seems that it has become quite the fun game. Please drop a comment if you have or ever do give it a try.

Medieval, Fantasy, and Gaming Podcasts
If you are a fan of podcasts then
here is a list that you may want to check out. And if by chance you aren't sure what a podcast is, then let me sum it up by saying that it's basically an audio or video recording, usually created by everyday people, wherein they discuss subjects on everything under the sun. More often than not, the creators spice the podcast up with music and sounds and whatnot to add to the effect or theme. Well, since this is a Medieval and Fantasy site, well, it just so happens that the listing of podcasts that I've amassed here are in that genre; although I must admit a large portion of them are in the area of online RPG game topics such as World of Warcraft and the like. However, there are many other podcasts listed here, all broken down by category. I must put this out there there as a disclaimer: I have not listened to all of these, most of them yes, but not all, so you can not find me guilty if you find any of them to be the quality of dragon poo. Anyways, take a look at the podcast list here, and be sure to check back as I will be adding more as I come across them.

Recommended Book: Master of the Five Magics by Lyndon Hardy
There are few books that I can read more than once every few years. Among those chosen few is Master of the Five Magics by Lyndon Hardy.
This wonderful piece of fantasy has everything from magic and wizards to castles and swords. The book follows the main character, Alodar, as he makes his way through learning five classes of magic. In fact, the book divides itself into these subsections, which I must admit I really like. The classes as listed in the book are: Thaumaturgy, Alchemy, Magic, Sorcery, and Wizardry. Alodar takes on challenges in each of these disciplines all the while trying to attain his main goal. What is his goal you may ask? Well, I don't want to give away the story, so I will simply recommend you pick it up and give it a shot. This book is part of a trilogy of books by the same author that include, Secret of the Sixth Magic and Riddle of the Seven Realms. Therefore, if you like what you read in MotFM then I am sure you'd like Hardy's other two offerings.
